Sourdough Story
Hi, I’m Katherine–the heart behind Salt Water Flour Co. I’m so glad you’re here!
Since I was little, I’ve had a spatula in hand, ready to help my mom and grandma bake cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls for every holiday. The kitchen holds my favorite memories.
Fast forward a few years, and now, I have a dough whisk in hand. In 2020, my sister and I decided to grow sourdough starters from scratch. Like every good sibling activity, it quickly became a competition. Ever since my starter grew (first) in May 2020, I’ve been passionate about not only baking and breaking bread but also sharing the joy of the process and the love of the table with others, just as my mom and grandma did with me.
I’ve baked non-stop the past few years and have hosted “Sourdough School” for coworkers, church groups, and countless friends and family. The result is always the same–people find immense joy in baking bread and making memories with those they love.
Salt Water Flour Co. rose from my desire to pass on a fraction of the love and hospitality my grandma did in and through her own kitchen in Jupiter. The name and logo, inspired by her handwritten recipe cards, encompass the three simple ingredients in sourdough as well as coastal life in South Florida. It truly is bread that rises with the tide.
Whether you’re looking to build family traditions, bond with coworkers, or laugh with your gang, head to “Sourdough School” and book a class today. I can’t wait to meet you!
